Welcome to Porto, Portugal!
Whether you're arriving for business or leisure, one of your first questions might be, "How do I get from the airport to the city center?" Don't worry! Porto uses a variety of transport options, so let's explore the best ways to make this journey seamless.
Located just a short drive from Porto city center, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport serves as the primary gateway for travelers visiting the region. Situated in Maia, approximately 11 kilometers northwest of Porto, this modern airport offers convenient access to both domestic and international destinations.
1. By Metro
The Porto Metro offers a convenient and cost-effective way to reach the city center. With frequent departures and well-connected stations, you'll glide smoothly from the airport to downtown in no time. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to catch glimpses of Porto's vibrant neighbourhoods along the way.
You can easily get to the airport or the city center by metro. You just need to pick Line E (Purple), which starts at the airport and runs every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the time and day of the week.
For these reasons, we consider the Metro to be the best option for getting to Porto city center, as it is the most efficient in terms of price and comfort.
Likewise, we recommend taking the Metro to get around Porto, as its network is well organized and covers the main places to see. So, we strongly recommend buying the Porto Card when you arrive in Porto, which gives you access to the city's various public transport services and helps you save some money.
Where to buy the Metro of Porto's card?
You can buy your metro card at any Andante shop (Metro's point of sale). You can choose your language and pay with cash or any credit card.
If for some reason you can't find it, just ask the information center at the airport.
From this point forward your trip to Porto will be very easy.
